hands on manual therapy
Skilled manual therapy techniques including myofascial release, specialized mobilizations, extremity and spinal manipulations and muscle release techniques can provide immediate improvements in pain and mobility, creating an opportunity for greater movement, strength gains, and healing response.
All Precision clinicians have extensive post-doctoral training and certifications in manual therapy, and it is this hands-on approach that will be responsible for much of your success.
Dry needling
Do you have stubborn knots, chronic muscle tightness, or pain that keeps you from moving the way you want to? You might be a good candidate for dry needling, one of the modalities that we incorporate into many of our sessions.
Dry needling, or intramuscular therapy, is a technique designed to help treat musculoskeletal or myofascial pain. It involves inserting a small needle into specific areas called ‘trigger points.’ These ‘trigger points’ are tender, irritable spots in fascia and muscles; palpable nodules in taut bands of tissue. The results are often immediate and can create noticeable improvements in both pain, range of motion, and you ability to move.
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM)
IASTM enables the practitioner to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function. We can perform skin, fascial, nerve gliding and neuro-sensory pain modulation through tissue mobilization through specific mechano-reception stimulation. The tools may be hard-edged, but the techniques do not need to be aggressive to deliver effective outcomes. Light stroking techniques can be just as effective and more pressure can be utilized as desired.
Cupping
Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that involves placing silicone suction cups on the skin to create a decompression effect. This lifts the skin, tissue, and muscle upwards to enhance circulation and provide pain management.
The suction facilitates healing by increasing blood flow and circulation, relieving muscle tension, and promoting cellular repair. It can also help aid in the formation of new connective tissue and creation of new blood vessels. The practitioner can also glide and slide the cups across the skin as a form of massage. It is a wonderful complementary treatment for many ailments.
Kinesiology Taping
KT tape is a supportive, non-restrictive tape that lifts the skin, accelerating blood flow to increase the amount of oxygen available to the muscles, which reduces fatigue. It also promotes lymphatic drainage to remove toxins produced by the body during hard workouts. It will allow the athlete to go harder for longer periods of time and can be applied to very specific areas of the body.
In summary, it can promote pain relief, reduce swelling and inflammation, accelerate recovery from bruises and contusions, relieve muscle spasms and cramping, speed recovery of overused muscles, support injured muscles and joints without restricting range of motion, allow athletes to remain active while injured, and enhance strength and muscle tone in weak or poorly-toned muscles.
Therapeutic / Corrective Exercises
“Motion is lotion.” Properly prescribed therapeutic or corrective exercises provide solutions to improve motor patterns, regain strength, and range of motion, promote healing, and address imbalances or compensations that develop over time. After proper guidance and instruction our patients enjoy the responsibility of completing their programs on their own.
