His journey began as a teenager, when he helped his younger brother recover from a traumatic injury. Dr. Mike witnessed how restoring movement and function brought joy to his brother’s life and decided he wanted to do the same for others. Additionally, his own major injuries have given him a personal understanding of chronic pain and have enhanced his love of caring for those who have been unsuccessful in finding relief from the care that is widely available. He is an expert in treating pain and dysfunction quickly and effectively.
In his youth, Dr. Mike was a sprinter and long jumper, and played football for a semi-professional team in San Antonio. He has been a water sport enthusiast most of his life and enjoys slalom skiing and wake surfing as well as kayaking and paddle boarding.
These days, Dr. Mike also loves mountain biking, hiking, and camping. His favorite place is being with his beautiful wife and 3 wonderful children.
Dr. Mike believes connection with his patients combined with individualized one on one care yields the greatest results for those burdened by pain and injury. He is very excited to have the opportunity to practice this way at Precision.
My Story
I was a short and medium sprinter running the 100m, 200m, and 400m, as well as long jump. Refined takeoff training as a fullback unlocked my full acceleration potential taking me from a competitive sprinter to the fastest 40m on my semi-pro team with consistent sub 4.5sec.
Love for "collision sports" began with no pads backyard hockey in Minnesota and later football in Texas. Two seasons for a semi-pro football team as both full back and middle linebacker with a niche in short powerful runs on offense and heavy hitting on defense against utilizing my quick burst speed and physicality.
I grew up as an adrenaline junkie craving high speeds and big jumps and I loved water sports! Unfortunately, I was involved in a high speed tubing accident involving the tube hitting the beach and tossing me onto dry land. I hit head first and flipped multiple times end over end, causing my doctors at the time to marvel at my survival and lack of broken vertebrae. The damage sustained still led to years of limited activity and chronic pain. I had severely limited range of motion (ROM) in my neck for two years. A successful manipulation to my neck with several very loud cavitations (pops & cracks) brought immediate relief and improvement to my ROM. I’ve been able to avoid spine surgery and keep my pain levels low by getting highly skilled hands-on care and being intentional about maintaining a highly active lifestyle.
Neck pain and headaches are among my favorite things to treat as well as low back pain based on my own personal battle to regain my active lifestyle after injury.
I love treating patients dealing with pain of any type anywhere on the body who haven't been able to get relief through other means or feel that something has been missed. Investigating and problem solving is one of the most exciting things about being a PT. I think patients need to know their providers are invested in helping them find answers to their problems, not just trying to fit them into a box and shuffling them along with a bandaid solution.
